A Word from your Former Mentor
As I stated before leaving Malaysia, I noted that I intended to keep this website running. Admittedly, I've been a bit slow about that; however, I have been reviewing information on the internet that I think many of you still might find helpful. You'll find these links below.
On a personal note, all is well in Hong Kong. I will also visit home to see family and old friends during the Thanksgiving holidays. I'm grateful for the opportunities living and working in Malaysia provided for me to further develop myself as a teacher and teacher trainer. It truly was an adventure, and many thanks to all of you who participated with me. It is my hope that the resources discovered in this rudimentary website will provide ideas for creativity and improved methodology, so that your pupils can begin to enjoy speaking more, and that you can continue to enjoy teaching more! Best of luck in all you do...

My my my, what a busy May and June it has been! As always, teachers in Jasin are continuing to make great strides in materials development, lesson planning, lesson and materials sharing, reflection and transitioning to a more student-centred approach in their English lessons. Well done to all for their continued and determined efforts!
Ah, Hari Guru! Over the past few years, I’ve enjoyed attending and participating with teachers on this very special day. This year was no exception. I was fortunate enough to make my way around to all my cluster schools, to see the different ways they celebrate this holiday. Photos are included below.
Over the May/June break, I had the opportunity to attend MELTA’s annual Conference in Johor Bahru. I presented on Authentic Leadership to a room packed with educators from all over the globe. It was extremely rewarding to have the opportunity to discuss the elements of my MA programme, and to gain ideas for how to better improve my practice as an English Language Consultant. I would encourage all teachers to consider attending conferences, as they are a wonderful way to meet fellow educators, gain materials ideas, discover techniques currently at the forefront in our field (i.e. blended learning) and establish a pattern of focusing on professional development. Conferences should definitely be a consideration for helping you to improve your practice, over time.
Since the break, efforts have been focused on helping prepare SJKC Chiao Chee for the upcoming Clash of the Titans 3.0. It promises to be a solid, family-friendly event once more. We hope to see you there!
Recently, in association with my colleague, Andrew Lasher, I completed a Supplemental KSSR CD Curriculum. It includes MP3s and a booklet that includes a sample lesson and activities useful for implementing songs in the Year 1 classroom. Please click here to access this resource.
A note on TPDs for the end of the year: The final TPDs are scheduled for June 26, July 8 and August 29, 2013. We hope for strong attendance and participation. And, as always, I will have some fantastic goodies from Hong Kong to share with teachers. Let’s end the project with a bang! And makan, of course.

In conjunction with the JPN and the PPD, Brighton Education Group held the Melaka Conference of 2013 on April 20, 2013. Several Mentors presented, including Derek Straat, Samantha Richards, Ian Gallagher and Camille Morrison along with Mariah bt Abdullah Rahman and Juliawati bt Mohamad, as well as myself. Mentor David Noel of Melaka Tengah helped organise the exhibition, which included Mentor Mark Middleton, and Mentor Robert Pinkney was unable to attend due to medical reasons. It was nice to see the Mentors of Melaka come together, each with respect to their differing strengths, and conduct a series of workshop for Non-TELL schools in Melaka. Many thanks to Pn Noorainun bt Anuar for her tireless efforts in creating this event, and thanks to Hjh Noora and En Ali for their support!!!!
Mariah, Juliawati and Camille wanted to provide resources they utilised for their Post Card and Pen Pal Projects. They include: Post Card Lesson Plan, Pen Pal Lesson Plan, Large Postcard Template, and a Spelling Bee Lesson Plan. Many thanks for such excellent resources!!!! Potential PBL, anyone?
An idea for teachers that may prove interesting…Stations. Perfect for Level Two, as we all know that teachers are taking the student-centred approaches learned under Penutur Jati and applying them in Level Two classes, right?! ;-)
Important: Please note that ‘Clash of the Titans 3.0’ has been postponed until June 29, 2013.
More photos and information coming after TPD on Thursday, April 25, 2013. Perhaps a few surprises at TPD!

Year 6 pupils at SJKC Chiao Chee working it!!!
Four (4) days from now marks the one (1) year anniversary of challengeaccepted2013.weebly.com. It’s amazing. I only ever intended for this blog to be an easy and efficient way for me to notify my employer of what I’m doing out at the schools. That was it! However, now it has changed into an entirely different thing altogether! The other day, my friend, Holly Shaw, posted something on Facebook that made me pay attention. You see, I haven’t seen Holly for almost twenty (20) years now, and I had no idea that she was teaching dance in San Francisco. I also didn’t know about her project, 365Dances. I certainly didn’t know that my old friend would inspire me the way she did. After perusing her 365Dances project, I realised that this website is almost 365 days old.
So let’s reflect on what one (1) year of challengeaccepted.weebly.com has shown. To me, it marks a clear sign that sharing is most definitely caring! From stories of SK Kesang Tua teachers collectively compiling proper documentation and used resources for MOE inspection to occasional team teaching at SK Air Baruk to teachers at SK Sri Lanang modelling student-centred techniques to teacher trainees, the MTPs of Jasin have formed a Professional Learning Community that shares materials, ideas and other resources to implement KSSR methodologies in their classrooms. I’ve seen you all, and things are looking delightful in classrooms!
One (1) year of the website has also been a wonderful way for me to reflect on the work that I, individually, and with support, have accomplished. Memories of Merentas Desa and Clash of the Titans 2.0…how fabulous is that?
This week, I will be representing Brighton Education Group at the 2013 PELLTA iELT-Con in Penang. I’ll be presenting and discussing some of the concepts of Authentic Leadership I’ve been studying for my MA. For the really adventurous readers, check defyexpectations.weebly.com for a peek at my pending research in Authentic Leadership within Malaysia. A teaser, perhaps?
Excitement builds for the Melaka Conference on April 20, 2013. I’ll have the opportunity to teach the demo lesson for Year 2 pupils of SK Semabok. Who knows what will happen when they’re ‘Walking in the Jungle’????? Some of you may be coming to that. I hope you enjoy the event and take away several ideas to implement in class.
Wish me luck in Penang, as it’s the first time I’ll be discussing Authentic Leadership in front of a group. Oh boy. I’ll see you next week.

Idea presented by MTPs actuated in class!
April means heat!!!! Lately, it’s been so hot around the schools, I’ve been considering bringing a second shirt! Regardless of the weather, teachers in Jasin have been barrelling along…the month of September firmly in sight. Here are a few highlights since the last update:
TPD – Mentor Andrew Lasher paid a visit, discussing creative writing strategies. Many kind thanks to Andy for making the trip from KL to participate together with the teachers of Jasin. I know many teachers are anxiously awaiting Mentor Ian Gallagher’s visit at the April TPD.
SJKC Poh Lan Incamp Day – I and other mentors from the NSP (Native Speaker Project) were able to participate a second time with SJKC Poh Lan in Melaka Tengah. Because all planning was based upon last year’s event, planning this event for a second time was extremely simple. Please consider viewing the Best Practice of this event. It would be a fabulous Project-Based Learning event for teachers of your schools. Obviously, Guru Besar would need to be involved; however, we have attempted to provide a relatively comprehensive resource that can easily be modified to be made ‘suitable’ for your schools. Please find that resource on the public folder of my Dropbox page.
Dropbox – Speaking of Dropbox, please note that I have publicly shared all resources I have access to or have come across in the past few years. It is my hope that the Dropbox resources will be easily accessible to you. I also hope you make full use of them and share them with other colleagues and/or teacher friends. Further, if teachers have resources they would like added to this Resource Compendium, please post them to me privately. Sharing is caring!
Bowling – I love bowling with the SK schools. It was fabulous to hang out with SK Kesang Tua teachers recently. I’m always pleased to be able to participate in fun events with the schools. Many kind thanks to SK Kesang Tua for inviting me! Photos below!
On April 10, 2013, Jasin Mentors (and teachers) will be participating in an English Incamp Day at SJKC Pay Hwa in Melaka Tengah. May 20th will find an Incamp Day at SJKC Chiao Chee, and the third instalment of ‘Clash of the Titans’ will be coming to SJKC Chiao Chee on June 22, 2013. It is my hope that teachers and pupils alike will be able to join in this event to encourage pupils to speak and enjoy English more. Updates coming soon. For now, please enjoy some of the recent photos from TPD, Poh Lan’s English Incamp Day, Bowling photos, and even a (secret) photo from my recent holiday! Curious to see more feedback from teachers as the month of April rolls along…

A Word from your Mentor
I still can hardly believe that we are in March. Time passes so quickly. September will be here in the blink of an eye.
This weekend, I had a chance to visit Penang for a speaking engagement. So far within Malaysia, I’ve had no significant problems when presenting; however, at this presentation, everything that could have gone wrong did. ICT was a disaster, so I got frustrated, and missed important points concerning what I wanted to say. It was a challenging presentation; however, the activities embedded within the structure of the presentation were solid, and eventually ended up carrying the day.
Following the troublesome introduction, my workshop turned from presentation to project-based activity including creation of a mini-Opera, Slam Poem and Radio Broadcast. During the transition, groups came together, practiced and produced interesting concepts for the final presentation part of the workshop. The final presentation ended in success, as each group took and made their presentation their own. It even revealed some interesting cultural concepts of the university pupils in attendance!
But the talk was not without problems. A special group of Thai children aged 8-16 was in attendance at the talk. I had prepared a presentation for a room of adults, and found myself stuck with finding a way for the younger pupils to engage. Unfortunately, I did not find an adequate solution at the time.
I realised that my presentation this weekend was much like a classroom when we try new things. My audience was challenging, my material pitched to adults only, and I had planned activities I knew would work. However, all the elements of lesson planning did not prepare me for what the actual experience would be. Reflecting back, there were some elements I will change in the future. I’ll prepare a contingency for alternative audiences from my main audience, and make sure to check ICT much more thoroughly before proceeding with my presentation. Therefore, the experience, with reflection, only improves my practice as a speaker. I have to take it worth a grain of salt and grow from the experience. After all, I did have a fabulous chance to enjoy Penang street food. Lovely!
I believe the lesson I learned this weekend applies to teachers out in the schools. I prepared something. It didn’t go as I planned. Through reflection, I can make it better next time. The better I make it, the easier it becomes. The easier it becomes, the more I enjoy doing it. The more I enjoy doing it, the more care and attention I put into enacting it, and the more care and attention I devote to improving my practice, the happier and more engaged my participants are. Both teachers’ scenarios and mine are cut from the same cloth, I believe. Teachers, please continue with materials development. Please make connections with other teachers to improve materials and/or teaching practice. Please find ways to enjoy the work you do, and take great pleasure and pride in doing it. It is a noble thing, educating children. That said, please find my Powerpoint to the Penang presentation here. Enjoy!

MOE Inspection at SK Kesang Tua, 27/2/2013
This week saw a flurry of activity in the Jasin Cluster of the Native Speaker Programme. A representative of the Malaysian Ministry of Education, En. Mohamad Nazri bin Abdullah, visited SK Kesang Tua, observing both Rohani bt Md Nor and Azimi bt Shafie. Both teachers performed admirably, and the observation went off without a hitch. Congratulations to the teachers and administrators of SK Kesang Tue for a successful observation from the MOE! Well done!
On February 23, 2013, I had a chance to participate in the SK Air Baruk Merentas Desa. It was my third year participating, and it was just as hilly as I remembered! I love running with the kids and promoting elements of healthy living. It’s been a great event, and I look forward to participating in more Merentas Desa as the year progresses.
The February TPD was also this past week. Mentor Travis Doyle of Tampin, Negeri Sembilan, paid a visit to Jasin, discussing Project Based Learning and giving teachers a fresh perspective on what small projects they may be able to create over the course of 2013. Many thanks to him, and thanks as well to the teachers of SJKT Jasin, who prepared a short Materials Development presentation for TPD. Senthamarai Selvi a/p Kuppusamy and Tussna a/p Ramachandran both spoke and helped lead teachers in TPD. All the Mentors of Jasin are keen to see more teachers participating in enriching each other through the knowledge base they continue to create while involved in the Native Speaker Programme.
A slideshow of major events of the past week is coming soon!

February is passing by so quickly! Fortunately, Jasin teachers have been hard at work, making materials and using student-centred activities. It’s been great to work with teachers in the Pulai subcluster, and we will be glad to have Mentor Robert Pinkney back out in schools come March. Many thanks to all his teachers for accommodating Rob as his ankle heals. I had an opportunity to work in the studio on a project I'm spearheading right now. And with TPD and MOE visits coming up this week, it seems as though there is hardly a break in February! March is around the corner as well! 2013 is off to a great start!
Below are some photos of Jasin teachers in action! Many thanks to all for their efforts within their schools. It’s fabulous to see and report upon.

Materials bonanza!!! I love it when I’m out at the schools and something surprises me. Today was one of those days. At SK Sri Lanang, I chatted with Rozaimah bt Abdullah Rahman, who outlined a beautifully student-centred lesson plan to me. After discussing a few ideas about how to take that forward, I noticed that Rozaimah had modified the SIMON game board for phonics sounds ‘oa’ and ‘ght’. Excellent, I thought. Then I spoke to Masitah bt Hj Musa, who showed me her new behaviour chart for her Year 3 class. She has divided the class into groups and is having them compete against each other over a longer period to achieve group and class goals. Well done to both Rozaimah and Masitah! It was a pleasant surprise.
Over Whatsapp, I came to discover more of what teachers around Jasin have been up to. Rohani bt Md Nor provided photos of the vocabulary book she crafted for Year 2 pupils. Such a book can be used for review and paired with grammar structures that help build the confidence and functional usage of English for pupils. Well done, Rohani! But the absolute jaw-dropper came when Aumi Rabihah bt Muslimin forwarded me a photo of her English Corner at SJKC Chiao Chee. Now, we all know that Aumi loves materials, but the English Corner she has created is really top notch, and could stand as a model for other teachers preparing their English Corners in their schools. I find it’s always nice to have a model, because then you can pick and choose good things from it, and adapt it to your situation and context.
Below are examples of the fabulous stuff that came out of nowhere across my iPhone screen today. Glad to see it, and a pleasure to share…

Sometimes I browse an interesting site called TED.com. On this site, they post videos of talks of clever minds, often times on the cutting edge of technology, design, education and other fields. I like to watch these videos because they often times give me ideas based upon current information and research. Recently, General Colin Powell spoke for TED and they posted it here on their website. Feel free to watch...General Powell’s closing comments are particularly poignant, I believe.
I’m looking forward to being out in the schools this week.

MOE on the scene: February. The news that the MOE will be coming to visit is good news for the Jasin Cluster. Now is an opportunity to be prepared to show what we’ve learned over the past two (2) years. It’s been memorable. From workshops with all Mentors in 2011, through the two SJKC Chiao Chee ‘Clash of the Titans’ events, to Derek Straat’s recent presentation in TPD, it cannot be said that Jasin hasn’t had its fair share of memorable events. Let us relish in that. Let us be proud to show our achievements, however moderate they may be. Educational change takes time.
Now is also the perfect time to update your portfolios, including your reflections on TPD, and find examples of successful activities utilised in class. I myself am beginning to create a professional portfolio, and may have some organisational ideas.
In my visit to SK Tedong today, I noted that the school is involved in an I-THINK programme. If any teachers are aware of that and interested in discussing it, I would be happy to share some thoughts on the concepts.
CNY is coming soon! I’ll be happy to help prepare a bit before we all head off to have a nice holiday! I’m setting a general schedule that follows like this (except when modifications arise):
Monday – SJKC Chiao Chee
Tuesday – SK Sri Lanang
Wednesday – SK Kesang Tua
Thursday – SK Air Baruk
Friday – SJKT Jasin
I hope this helps each of you to plan for our visits. I believe that staying in your schools for the full day will aid in material development, phonics discussion, preparation for TPD, etc. We can discuss face to face soon.

Mmmmmm.....smoothie....
Recently I’ve been on a diet. And it isn’t easy. The biggest problem comes when I leave my home…I come into temptation of eating Malaysian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner! And I want to, I really really want to. But then I look at photos of me from December 2011, and I remember why I’m doing this. I’ve set a goal, and accepted the challenge I’ve given myself. So I will set annual, monthly, weekly and daily goals. I will participate in events to encourage me along the path of achieving my goals (KL Marathon, June 2013 – does anyone want to run this run with me? We could make a group of Fun Run runners from Jasin). I will treat myself from time to time.
But sometimes I just get hungry. I find it best to start off with something really healthy in the morning: the smoothie. Smoothies are so delicious and can be packed full of fabulous stuff. The fact that Malaysia has such wonderful fruits, like papaya and mango, makes for a variety of flavours I would be unlikely to get back home. Below is a really simple smoothie recipe that gets me going in the morning. It is an excellent alternative to nasi lemak or other Malaysian foods, especially during this time of dieting.
Adam’s Basic Smoothie
2 Bananas, 1 Apple, 1 carrot, a bit of ginger, 1 raw egg,
Flaxseed (can be substituted with, or added to, wheat/oat bran)
Dollop of yogurt, fill blender with milk (as desired)
Blend in blender until creamy, place in Tupperware(!) bottle to take to school.
Meals are typically full of nuts, dried fruits, vege and fruit (sometimes cheese!!!), and I make sure to eat grilled chicken for protein. Beans go a long way for protein. Also, I have to watch my sugar intake. I’ve stopped drinking soft drinks, and I make sure that I have fruit as a dessert instead of cake.
So, I need to be strict in another area. Diet is essential, but getting proper exercise is also key to the efficacy of this diet. I always make sure that I stretch in the morning (no need to overstretch – just stretching to where I’m comfortable with it, but pushing to stretch just a bit further). And, of course some kind of aerobic exercise is necessary. I choose to run, even though I really really really hate running. And I set a goal: Standard Chartered KL Marathon. I’m looking very forward to the SK Air Baruk Merentas Desa on February 23. Any other teachers interested in running at that event? Maybe those interested in doing the KL Fun Run…we could use it as a preparatory run in training for the KL Run.
2013 is a great year so far. For me, the healthier I am, the more I’ll appreciate it! So, I share the joy of the smoothie. Bon appetite!

First TPD of the year complete! Papa John's Pizza, SIMON, and even a bit of Shakespeare!! Many thanks to Derek Straat of the
Alor Gajah TELL Cluster for coming to visit Jasin and teaching MTPs how to
perform Shakespearean passages. The body language techniques are extremely
useful in class, especially with slow learners. Pairing gesture and rhythm
(with intention) is engaging, aids in retention (because it is more fun and easily
remembered), and doesn’t even seem like learning! We were pleased that Derek
could bring his presentation style to Jasin, and hope teachers gained a few
ideas for classroom work.
Camille gave a quick update on the current projects she has going and her hopes to expand them to other teachers within the Jasin Cluster. Camille’s projects are ready-made and simple to reproduce. I highly recommend that teachers take the opportunity to engage with Camille’s projects. They are useful and should be able to last long after Camille has left Malaysia.
SIMON was a useful game that has multiple uses. I hope many of you take advantage of the template provided on the Resource page and use SIMON to aid vocabulary retention through group games in class. Perhaps some of you could play with your own children at home! It is a solid resource due to the secret nature of how it drills pupils…they never know they are repeating the word again and again! Child psychology in action!
We were also pleased to hear from one of our own MTPs, Aumi Rabihah bt Muslimin, who introduced her recent material development, a behaviour chart. Pn Aumi’s idea is extremely beneficial in handling classrooms that are beginning to employ games for the first time. Classroom management can become troublesome due to the nature of competition, winning and losing. Having a behaviour chart can show students that they are a part of a group, and their behaviour impacts the whole group. I particularly liked how Pn Aumi clearly drew the lines between Ready to Learn, Outstanding and Think about It. Very well done.
Below is a small photo gallery of our time in the January 2013 TPD at PPD Jasin. Our next TPD is scheduled for February 27, 2013. We look forward to seeing you there.

Puppet time at SJKC Chiao Chee!
It’s a new year with some new faces, new games/activities, new TPD sessions and a new approach to the third year of the Penutur Jati/TELL project throughout Malaysia. With everybody well rested (hopefully) from the Winter Break, all clusters in Jasin are poised to begin a new year and start fresh. Now is the time to create patterns for pupils that will sustain through the 2013 school year. For example, behaviour charts. Have you considered preparing a behaviour chart for potentially naughty classes? Pn. Aumi Rabihah bt Muslimin created just such a chart. Find it in the photos below.
So far this year, I’ve had the opportunity to visit with teachers who have been using all kinds of new techniques consistent with the KSSR in class. Thanks for making it suitable!!!!
Some exciting developments have happened recently. Firstly, all cluster have been combined in a once a month Super-Mega-TPD (the kind of TPD I have been dreaming about since the beginning of this project), held at the PPD Jasin and available to all TELL teachers in the three (3) clusters: Asahan, Jasin and Pulai.
Mentor Camille Morrison is back in her role as Mentor in the Asahan cluster, and is continuing and plans to expand on the projects she began last year; namely, the post card project, cluster school spelling bees, and the pen pals programme. More is in store when Camille gets an idea, so be ready!
Our heart goes out to Mentor Robert Pinkney, who very recently endured two (2) surgeries on his ankle due to an accident while on holiday. Ever the trooper, Rob has made efforts to participate with his cluster since the beginning of the year. However, in his process of healing, the doctors have given him MC until the beginning of March. So, Robert is around, but not out! We wish him a strong recovery and look forward to seeing him back in the schools later this year!
Finally, Mentor Adam Freeman has a few goals for the year: English Incamp Days with SJKC Chiao Chee (May! Crossing fingers…), SJKC Poh Lan in Melaka Tenggah (March 20, most likely), and SJKC Pay Hwa in Melaka Tenggah (in development); conferences in Melaka, Penang, Johor Bahru and maybe even the Philippines; improving the quality of TPDs; forwarding school materials development, and maybe even a few more surprises in store!
All the Mentors in Jasin are looking forward to a very productive and helpful year in 2013. Tell us how we can help you this year. Communicate your needs. We’ll be happy to help.

So we are on School Holiday! Isn't that still a time to find a few new resources to incorporate into our classes? You bet! Here are two websites I found that require no other materials but a paper and pencil! Enjoy!

Camille's Corner
This year has been a busy one out in Melaka-Asahan! I’ve had several projects going with the teachers and want to express how pleased I am with all of their hard work! It has been a pleasure to participate with teachers over the course of 2012. Below are a few of the projects we’ve accomplished this year!
In my cluster we have been involved in on-going projects such as the orphanage drive, pen pal project, postcard project, and spelling bee competition. In October we hosted an end of the year spelling bee competition among classes at cluster schools. The students were awarded prizes for being the top spellers, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. The students were excited and always willing to participate to learn new English words. They encouraged each other with chants and songs.
At the end of last year a postcard project was established to encourage the students to learn about different countries and places with the hopes to improve their writing and reading skills. They received an overwhelming response and collected over 100+ postcards from all over the world. Some of the students collected the stamps and the postcards were displayed in their classroom as collages or mobiles. The penpal project was similar in encouraging the students writing, reading and grammar skills but this time they established a relationship with other students abroad. Both of these projects are in the KSSR curriculum and is encouraged to continue next year with hopes to expand to other clusters! A lesson plan is attached hereto.
Pen Pal Project (pictures below) – The Pen Pal project was established to help improve pupil’s reading, writing and grammar. A lesson plan of how to conduct such a program is attached!
Spelling Bee competition – This project was established to help build vocabulary during lessons. Teachers are encouraged to give pupils 10-20 words each week for their English vocabulary builder book. Pupils then learn the meaning and spelling and participate in a spelling bee activity at the end of the year! Kudos to all my teachers who have participated in this programme!
As you can see from the photos below, I have been very busy with Sports Days at the schools. It has been a pleasure to participate as a judge in these events. I look forward to the possibility to attend these same events next year!
And a project that is near and dear to my heart is helping a local orphanage find resources for the children that live there. Should you have any donations for these deserving children, please contact me and we can discuss how you can help.
And with that, I want to say that 2012 has been an amazing year! I’m looking forward to continuing my projects next year, and maintaining the strong, happy relationships I have with my teachers! Have an excellent break, and see you in 2013!

The end of the school year is upon us, and Melaka-Jasin recently completed their 19th TPD for the year. I am grateful to all the teachers who have made a strong effort to attend TPD and utilise methods gained there in their classrooms. Well done to all!
On October 3, 2013, I had the opportunity to participate in an Incamp Day organised in conjunction with SJKC Poh Lan of Melaka Tenggah. Several mentors came and participated with the children, conducting classes including word scrambles/searches, English movies, Pictionary/Charades, Spelling Bee competition, Circle Time and Karaoke! It was a wonderful event, and I am grateful to the Guru Besar and teachers of SJKC Poh Lan for their willingness to participate in this English immersive event. Feedback was positive, and it is possible that teachers of SJKC Poh Lan may also conduct such a programme independent of Mentor participation in 2013. Teachers from SJKC Chiao Chee have also indicated interest in conducting such an event in 2013 as well. It is my hope to help facilitate those that are interested in creating English events that spur children toward sustained interest in using the language and participating in fun activities using English.
As the year finishes, several Prize-giving ceremonies are in the works. It will be a pleasure to participate in these and end the year with a bang! Many kind thanks to all the teachers and their participation in Penutur Jati in 2012! See you next year!
Below catch a slideshow of the recent English Incamp Day held at SJKC Poh Lan.

A Word from your Mentor
With Ramadan, Hari Raya and UPSR examinations complete, the end of the school year is fast approaching. Now is a great time to check in on the individual goals you set for yourself this year, and to consider setting goals for the 2013 School Year. The Malaysian Holiday Schedule has already been posted, so it’s a good idea to look ahead and see what kind of materials development (i.e. behaviour charts, phonics sets, rewards systems, etc.) will be useful, read up on what new approaches/activities you can use, and determine what holiday plans might be in store!
An idea for post-UPSR materials development:
I’d like to wish many kind thanks to Fazilah binti Yusoff of SK Air Baruk, who inspired me through a conversation concerning post-UPSR activities for Year 6 pupils. The discussion we had was very simple: Year 6 pupils have more free time following the UPSR, so wouldn’t it be reasonable to have them assist teachers in materials development? The teacher would be responsible mostly for organisation of the files and discovering the materials for the pupils to make. Then the pupils would cut, colour and laminate the materials for future use.
Suggestions: Select capable students who can be trusted with additional responsibility. Sit them down with an example of a material you want made. Guide them through the process, step by step. Check their understanding. Leave them to it. If discipline problems arise, divide labour into separate tasks.
In order to make an effective materials library, you’ll need to divide the organisation into simple segments. I’d recommend buying an accordion-style organiser (available at JUSCO) and labelling it “Year 1 Materials Packet”. Each division will house materials from each Unit. Be sure to properly label everything, making it easier for pupils to tidy items. For loose items (i.e. phonics cards, role play sentences, dice), I’d suggest placing them in plastic bags. Please be sure to laminate every item of material, and ensure safety of the children as they operate the laminating equipment. Further, your English Panel Heads should have funds for purchasing laminating paper. It is an essential asset in the creation of long-lasting materials.
Materials development done in isolation can seem like a large task. However, as teachers join together and distribute the amount of work to complete, it makes the effort much easier. Further, as Units with accompanying materials are completed, teachers have a resource to pull from for years to come. Future teachers will also benefit from the work you have completed, especially since you laminated it!
Side note: Photos from SK Air Baruk, Jasin have hit the front page of brightoneducation.org!! It’s great to be able to expose others to the great efforts the teachers of Jasin/Asahan/Nyalas/Selandar/Bukit Senggeh are putting forth, both through this blog and other venues. Keep trying new things, discovering new options and improving your practice, one step at a time.

A

On July 18, 2012, I voyaged to Kuala Pilah to participate in an Incamp Day at SK Pelangai organised by Mentor Joane Le Roux. As I am well known for my musicality, I ran the Karaoke booth. After quite a lot of sweating (in an air-conditioned room!!), both pupils and Mentor alike had a fabulous day of singing and learning through song. Other Mentors from around Negeri Sembilan and Melaka took part. For my part, I was so inspired by the excellent work my fellow Mentor did, that I decided to take the idea and implement it at another school here in Melaka.
Since the original ‘Clash of the Titans’ held at SJKC Chiao Chee in June 2011, I have maintained a positive working relationship with the former Guru Besar of SJKC Chiao Chee, Madame Tay. Madame Tay was moved to SJKC Poh Lan in Melaka Tenggah at the start of 2012, but asked me to lend some assistance on another project at the school. During our discussions, we determined that SJKC Poh Lan is most certainly interested in conducting an Incamp Day, just as SK Pelangai did earlier this July. Discussions are underway and we are still in the planning stages; however, it is exciting to be able to work with a school that, although not necessarily part of the Penutur Jati programme, still seeks to engage with the programme for the benefit of SJKC Poh Lan pupils. It is a pleasure to work with Madame Tay again, and it is my hope that this Incamp Day will maintain the same level of success as the one conducted in SK Pelangai. What is that song? The more we get together, the happier we’ll be?
Also, SK Sri Lanang recently conducted their Sports Day, and while I was unable to attend that event due to a scheduling conflict with TPD, I was able to catch a practice out at SK Sri Lanang: Tug of War. It was exciting to see pupils and teachers alike become actively engaged in athletic events, and I am certain the event was a memorable one for all. Congratulations to Cik Maliza’s Blue Team, which ended up winning the entire event overall.

In Focus: Aumi Rabihah bte Muslimin. Meet Aumi Rabihah bte Muslimin, an optionist teacher from SJKC Chiao Chee. Puan Aumi is the Head of her English Panel at school, and this year has been responsible for teaching Years 2, 3, 5 and 6 at SJKC Chiao Chee. She is currently in her fifteenth (15th) year as a teacher. Additionally, Puan Aumi is enrolled in a MA TESL Course at UITM and actively takes pedagogical and theoretical ideas gained from her studies and implements same in the classroom. Since the beginning of Penutur Jati, Puan Aumi has made several changes to her class; particularly, encouraging creativity in Level 2 students, implementing activities directly into the classroom following TPD sessions and making appropriate materials (for both Levels 1 and 2), using supplementary material discovered (on her own) on the Internet, fostering and creating an atmosphere of meaningful English language usage, developing professional lesson plans with an emphasis on student-centred techniques, actively utilising ICT in the classroom and participating in planning school events and activities with this Mentor. Through her interaction with the Penutur Jati programme, Puan Aumi has continued the significant development fostered by the theoretical underpinnings of her MA TESOL programme, and grown by working both with her Mentor and herself to put those theories into practice. In other words, Puan Aumi is willing to take risks in adapting to the Penutur Jati programme. While she sometimes tries and fails, Puan Aumi consistently and reflectively looks for the ways she can best implement the techniques and ideas she is exposed to through her development as an educator. She learns from her mistakes and works together with her Mentor to assess and improve her strategies in order to become more effective. It is a pleasure to work with Puan Aumi, as her efforts to successfully turn around the rapidly decreasing English scores (almost single-handedly) at SJKC Chiao Chee consistently show her dedication to her pupils, her work and her own professional development. Puan Aumi always gives her best to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for students to take risks in speaking English. I salute her endeavours and have been pleased to continue to see improved results in her class. Your work is consistently of high quality, Puan Aumi! Below find photos of the efforts Puan Aumi has made so far this year.

In the Asahan cluster, I’ve had a wonderful opportunity to participate with pupils and teachers in many different ways. Earlier in May, the teachers of Ashan had a field trip with the students to the butterfly and crocodile farm. At the butterfly farm, it was enlightening to see all the various species of butterflies flying around. On the other hand, the crocodile farm had crocodiles that look like they were dead or dying with their mouths wide open waiting for someone or something to bite. Scary!
Also, Bowling day with Felda Bukit Senggeh teachers for Hari Guru in May was exceptional. All the teachers had a day to let their hair down and play ball. It was fun to watch and see who the good bowlers were, such as myself and then the others.... :-) It was a fun day I would love to do it again!!!
The postcard project is going strong! Check below to see some of my stamp collector students from SK Bukit Senggeh.
Hari Guru activities at SK Nyalas helped make it a fun filled day. Teachers played basketball among each other and they rode their students’ bike a short distance around a cone trying not to fall of the bike. It was very funny!
So, as you can see, it’s all happy times out in Asahan. The teachers are making great efforts to improve, and it is a pleasure to be their friend and Mentor as they make the transition.

12 July 2012
On July 2, 2012, the Melaka PPD, in association with Brighton Education Learning Services, hosted a workshop for teachers at the PPD Jasin. Teachers were drawn from both schools participating in the TELL Project and those that are not. The event lasted roughly three (3) hours and incorporated workshops concerning immersive learning, phonics and interactive activities. Many thanks to Puan Noorainun bt Anuar and Chris Barker for organising the workshops as well as to Aoife Downey (Negeri Sembilan) and Emma Avina (Melaka) for participating and conducting useful workshops for all those in attendance!
On July 10, 2012, I travelled up to Sekolah King George V in Seremban to participate with other Mentors in conducting workshops for pupils in Years 1 and 2. The event culminated in brief presentations from each class. My group of Year 2 pupils did work concerning occupations, learning and singing a delightful little number entitled “My Father is a Builder”. Much appreciation goes to Sekolah King George V and David Beach, Brighton Education Learning Services Education Manager for organising the event. It was a wonderful opportunity to work with other Mentors from Melaka and Negeri Sembilan, and I was very pleased to participate.
On July 11, 2012, David Beach, Brighton Education Learning Services Education Manager voyaged to Jasin to record a brief testimonial with SJKC Chiao Chee Guru Besar Madame Pang and Aumi Rabihah bt Muslimin concerning their perceptions of the TELL Project. Many thanks go to both Madame Pang and Aumi for their participation in this video testimonial. Afterward, David and I travelled to SK Air Baruk to record Noi Azizah bt Kutik in action teaching her Year 2 class. Puan Noi conducted a marvellous class, with pupils engaged in student-centred learning in a fun and engaging group context. Thank you to Puan Noi for her willingness to allow David to share the successes she has gained through her work in the TELL Project with others.
Finally, I’d like to thank all the PPD Officers, Guru Besar, Teachers and Brighton Staff who have been so beneficial to me over the course of 2012 thus far. Were it not for your cooperation and support, this cluster would not be able to achieve the wonderful things we’ve achieved thus far. I’m looking forward to a continued positive working relationship until the end of this school year. Thanks!!!!!

A large group of Mentors participated!
Exciting things have been happening in Jasin! On June 23, 2012, over 20 Brighton Education Mentors travelled to SJKC Chiao Chee for a second go at defeating their Malaysian rivals in the Clash of the Titans 2.0. Like last year’s event, children, mentors and teachers alike enjoyed performances from pupils of SJKC Chiao Chee, SK Sri Lanang, SK Air Baruk and SK Kesang Tua. Teachers at SJKC Chiao Chee worked incredibly hard to put together an exciting programme, and all pupils were glad to see the performances. This year, the addition of a Lucky Draw saw children and adults rewarded with 1) hampers filled with goodies of all kinds, 2) Hard Rock Café T-shirts and caps, 3) Vouchers to a local wildlife venue, and 4) bicycles provided by local businesses. Congratulations to all the winners in the Lucky Draw! Finally, the epic match-up of the “Clash of the Titans” proved too much for our intrepid group of Mentors. Team Malaysia remained victorious, trouncing the embattled Team Internacionale by over 20 points! Well done, Team Malaysia!!! Also, many thanks to Puan Noorainun bt Anuar for officiating this year's Clash of the Titans.
In other news, the Jasin cluster was blessed with a visit from a representative of Nord Anglia Education, Jo Mullins, Learning Services Director, who came and visited with teachers from SK Air Baruk and SJKC Chiao Chee. Many thanks to those teachers and Guru Besar who met with Jo during her visit to assess efficacy of the Penutur Jati programme from Nord Anglia’s perspective.
However, into every life a little rain must fall, and, as of July 2, Troy Wiggins has moved on from the programme, returning to the USA to pursue his dreams side by side with his wife. We thank Troy for his contribution to TPD sessions and for his diligence in working with teachers from the SK Pulai cluster. Best wishes in your future endeavours!
And finally, as Ramadan is rapidly approaching, teachers have been certain to attend a series of TPD sessions back to back to back, allowing the Jasin cluster to enjoy the entirety of Ramadan without TPD sessions. But that doesn’t mean they won’t be hard at work in their schools, implementing new strategies, developing ‘suitable’ games and continuing to refine how student-centred learning manifests in their classrooms. It is our hope that the teachers can relax and enjoy Ramadan with their families, but also challenge and delight their students during this time of fasting. Best wishes to all teachers during this time.
Below find photos of the Clash of the Titans event. A fun, family-friendly event full of English, smiles, prizes, and a little bit of humiliation for our beleaguered mentors!

A room full of focused typists!
Skill building in TPD sessions. Recently, teacher participants in Jasin have begun to really utilise and engage with this website during TPD sessions. In order to help facilitate reflection on their practice, teachers are communicating with each other in a digital platform; they share their cares, concerns, techniques, strategies, ideas and reflections on TPD activities, as well as the classroom activities they implement. Most of the teachers are beginning typists, so the activity can become tedious at times. In order to improve the teacher's soft skills, we recently conducted a typing workshop in our TPD. Teachers utilised typing websites, available for free on the Internet, to build their typing skills in a student-centred, interactive fashion, with an further emphasis on building computer skills. The typing links, found on the Resources page of ChallengeAccepted2013, are interactive, and include typing drills, typing games and practices for varying levels of typing ability. Fortunately for the teachers, these links can be utilised to help facilitate the same improvements in their students. Teachers were encouraged to set a goal for the typing speed they would like to achieve by the end of the TELL project in September, 2013. Teachers...you can achieve your goal! Be encouraged as you develop these soft skills that will help you further develop learners of the 21st Century!

Materials inspired by a TPD session.
In Focus: Masitah bt Hj Musa. Meet Maistah bt Hj Musa, an optionist teacher from SK Sri Lanang. Puan Masitah is well known throughout Jasin, having taught at both SK Air Baruk and SK Sri Lanang during part of her teaching career, now in its twenty-fourth (24th) year. Since the beginning of Penutur Jati, Puan Masitah has made some changes to her class; particularly, encouraging pupils to use multiple grammatical structures in working with KSSR refinements, implementing activities directly into the classroom following TPD sessions and making appropriate materials (see photo opposite), using supplementary material discovered (on her own) on the Internet, maintaining English materials available to students in the classroom both during and after class, and using lesson plans from the Year 2 KSSR Textbook in a more student-centred way in class. Before Penutur Jati, Puan Masitah had never taught a Level 1 course; however, with the methodologies available to her through this programme, Puan Masitah has grown in both her ability to teach younger students and provide them with suitable materials relevant to their English ability. She has also begun to create routines that assist students in class and help ease classroom control issues. Her effort to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for students to take risks in speaking English is greatly appreciated. I salute her endeavours and hope to continue to see improved results in her class. Excellent work, Puan Masitah! Below find photos of the efforts Puan Masitah has made so far this year.

On May 16, 2012, teachers across Malaysia celebrated Hari Guru, or Teacher’s Day. The event was marked with teachers participating in athletic events, performances by students, delicious lunches and, in some places, the exchanging of gifts (Tupperware, anyone?). On that day, I had the distinct advantage of participating with three (3) of my schools in the events they held. At SK Air Baruk, my base school, I was able to participate in the Morning Assembly, perform an original song at a school-wide gathering replete with cultural dances, speeches, video presentation and songs, and enjoy a delicious lunch followed by a gift exchange. I am grateful to the teachers and administration of SK Air Baruk for allowing me to participate and celebrate together with them. At SK Sri Lanang, I was able to witness presentations of awards to teachers by the Guru Besar, and to thank the teachers of SK Sri Lanang for all their efforts in the Penutur Jati programme. At SK Kesang Tua, things got messy when the teachers participated in delightful games such as Coconut Bowling and a Balloon Toss. A fun and happy day indeed!
Sometimes, with all the hard work teachers are involved in, we forget to celebrate their endeavours; however, Hari Guru is a day for teachers to relax and enjoy the fruits of their labours. From the gifts lavished upon them by grateful students to the gratefulness of the Guru Besar for a ‘job well done’, Hari Guru reminds us of the vital role teachers play in the Malaysian educational system, and it was my privilege to participate with them on this most special of days. Below is a slideshow of a few of the moments captured on this special day.

Recently, this Mentor had an opportunity to attend and present at the 21st Annual MELTA Conference held at Sunway Putra Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The workshop was entitled: “Of shoes – and ships – and sealing wax: ‘Nonsensical’ Teaching” and focused on immersive, non-linear techniques. A copy of the abstract is below:
“How did you learn your mother tongue? Was it through rote drilling, spelling tests and grammar handbooks or through the nonlinear process of observing and interacting with others? All the while, you were learning, but it didn’t feel like learning, and you didn’t acquire language through magic. Second language acquisition deserves an element of the ‘nonsensical’, nonlinear style of teaching. It deserves to be magical; however, the process is far from one requiring magic. Different learners follow different paths to arrive at a similar understanding; however, each learner’s perspective consistently colours their understanding. Differing inputs allow for differing outputs, and when exposed to a purposely arranged random variety, learners can be inspired to modify their thinking, reinforce their ability for critical thought and acquire knowledge on their own terms, thereby affecting retention and understanding. The purpose of this workshop is to: 1) explore nonlinear techniques for learning, 2) understand how incorporating the strengths various learners contribute to the entire classroom when exploring content, 3) recognize self-organisation in our learning process, and 4) discover your place within a nonlinear learning community. By unveiling the nonlinear processes we use to discover the information we need to best adapt to our environments, we present ourselves with an opportunity to unlock the learning processes of our students, and to embrace what may arise from what might once have been considered ‘nonsense’.”
It was a pleasure to once again have had the opportunity to participate in the MELTA Conference. It is always a wonderful opportunity to meet other professionals, develop myself (and my workshop) repertoire and learn about new materials/concepts in the ESL/Education field. I encourage my teachers to take an interest in participating within a conference some time. The rewards are fantastic!!!

In Focus: Noi Azizah bte Kutik. Meet Noi Azizah bte Kutik, a non-optionist teacher from SK Air Baruk. Originally certified to teach in Bahasa Melayu, Puan Noi has been teaching English classes in SK Air Baruk for approximately twelve (12) years. Since the beginning of Penutur Jati, Puan Noi has made some changes to her class; particularly, using role play and song in a more developed way, establishing class routines (in English) to reinforce learner confidence, consistently using groups as a way to encourage teamwork and implement student-centred techniques, and making good use of gestures that help indicate meaning to pupils. Puan Noi even utilises other areas of the school when she teaches! It is not unusual for Puan Noi to conduct class in a larger, more open space, thus facilitating games more easily. Puan Noi has actively taken ideas from Teacher Professional Development (TPD) sessions and class visits and implemented them in an effort to reinforce student confidence. Her demeanour and connection with the students allow Puan Noi to be an effective teacher with an exciting, dynamic and controlled classroom. Now, Puan Noi is taking on the challenge of incorporating phonics into her classroom, and sailing by with flying colours. I salute her endeavours and will be pleased to continue to see improved results in her class. Also, this post arrives on Puan Noi’s birthday, a day of good food, well-taught classes and a delicious watermelon! It’s Halal! Happy Birthday, Puan Noi! Below find a small gallery of Puan Noi in action!

On June 25, 2011, a collection of Mentors from Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka gathered for an auspicious event: ‘Clash of the Titans’ – an event held at SJKC Chiao Chee, Selandar, Melaka – wherein pupils from five (5) local cluster schools took part in presentations using English, including drama, song, dance, storytelling and a piano performance as well! The event’s climax came when Teams Malaysia and Internacionale took the floor to battle it out for superiority on the basketball court. Children, teachers and parents alike all cheered on their favourite teams, in English no less!
Flash forward one year, where preparations are in full swing for ‘Clash of the Titans 2.0’. This year, the event stands to be even larger and better attended. The format of the event has not changed, but this year we expect a larger group of Mentors. The Mentor in this cluster, Adam Freeman, has been working together with the Guru Besar, SJKC Chiao Chee PTA and local businesses to establish a ‘Lucky Draw’, with each child receiving a free lunch, a small school supply, and a chance to walk away with prizes donated from local businesses in Melaka.
We are pleased that the original event was such a popular and delightful one, and it is a pleasure to plan a ‘rebooted’ version. The event will be held at SJKC Chiao Chee, Selandar, Melaka on June 23, 2012 from 10am – 12pm. Come join the Mentors as they wage an epic struggle to not only beat Team Malaysia, but also to help encourage the children of these cluster schools to enjoy participating in an exciting event conducted entirely in English. We look forward to seeing you there! Photos from last year’s event are embedded in a slideshow below.

Camille's Corner
Hi! I’m Camille Morrison, a Mentor working with schools out in Asahan and Nyalas, the most remote section of Jasin. Just because it’s far from Melaka’s Pusat Bandaraya doesn’t mean that teachers haven’t been working hard. They have! I arrived in Malaysia in July 2011 and was excited to see that teachers in Asahan had already begun to take ideas from TPD sessions and use them in their classes. So far, we’ve worked hard to begin a Postcard Project, where students receive postcards from friends and acquaintances all over the world. Once they have received the postcard, the students can read and respond to them; some students even collect the stamps! The project has been successful so far, because it helps expose the children to the broader need of English in the world. The children also enjoy seeing pictures of amazing places across the planet, which fosters their curiosity and potentially plants seeds of dreams to travel.
Working in Malaysia has definitely been a wonderful experience for me so far, as the pictures below will show. Living here helps me learn a few things: first, the people teach me about their approach to life, and, by learning about them, I am able to learn things about myself. I’ve even begun to learn more Bahasa Melayu! Sedekit sahaja!
More plans are in the works, and Asahan teachers are participating very well and enjoying learning new ways to teach. Some even see strong improvement in their English ability. There are all good things happening in Asahan. Take a look at the pictures below!

In Focus: Goh Sea Lee.
Meet Goh Sea Lee, a non-optionist teacher from SK Air Baruk. Originally certified to teach in Science, Madame Goh has been teaching English classes in SK Air Baruk for approximately six (6) years. Since the beginning of Penutur Jati, Madame Goh has made some changes to her class; particularly, modifying classroom seating arrangement to one much more conducive to group work, using supplementary material discovered (on her own) on the Internet, and beginning to incorporate more positive reinforcement techniques into her student assessment (see photo opposite). Before Penutur Jati, Madame Goh had not yet implemented using stickers/stamps to reinforce student confidence. Now, Madame Goh is changing her approach to teaching English, engaging with material independent of the set curriculum, and creating a more positive and supportive atmosphere for students to take risks in speaking English. I salute her endeavours and hope to continue to see improved results in her class. Well done, Goh!

And so it begins! Challenge Accepted is a blog page devoted to highlighting occurrences in the Jasin, Melaka Cluster of the Malaysian Ministry of Education's Penutur Jati programme, or, as Brighton Education Group refers to it, the TELL Project. Regardless of the name, this website will act as the digital footprint of the activities and events completed through this project in Jasin, Melaka, Malaysia for the years of 2012 and 2013. This blog begins, because the challenge has been accepted, and work is underway. My name is Adam Freeman, English Language Consultant, and I am aided in this project by two English Language Professionals, Camille Morrison and Troy Wiggins. Together, we comprise the team assigned to Jasin.
This blog is beginning almost mid-year, so a bit of catching up will be necessary. This entry will provide information about what has transpired in the programme since January 2012.
The start of the year saw busy times as Guru, Guru Besar and Mentors scrambled to start the year off right. With KSSR 2 Curriculum implementation this year, everybody needed to get their schedules sorted and pinpoint their goals for the year. Some teachers, like Aumi Rabihah bte Muslimin, SJKC Chiao Chee, decided to create and improve phonics resources for her school. Aumi crafted her own book, entitled "Mr. Croc and his Crown", highlighting the CR phonic blend. Is that the beginning of a set, Aumi??
January 2012 also saw the addition of a new Mentor, a transplant from Terengganu, Troy Wiggins. Troy came very highly recommended and got straight to work, consistently providing useful activities for teachers in TPD sessions. Look for further information to see how Troy’s year has been shaping up in Reports from Troy. Coming soon.
As the year progressed, events eventually began to pop up…from Merentas Desa to Guru Retirement parties, it was proof that the school year was in full swing. Now we find ourselves at the end of April, steady in our TPD attendance and preparing to achieve our goals for the year.
For example, Camille Morrison, Mentor, consistently has a clever plan up her sleeve. A former wardrobe stylist, Camille naturally uses her creativity to implement delightful programmes. One such programme is her Postcards Programme, details of which are forthcoming. Also central to Camille’s plans this year is her Spelling Bee Project, which will see students from all over Jasin (and perhaps Melaka) competing to be a champion speller! Camille has a few more plans in the works, which she will highlight in Camille’s Corner.
For my part, I was pleased to be able to provide something to the schools which has traveled around SE Asia, Hawaii and Japan with me over the past 8 years: my trusty guitar! After arriving in Malaysia and purchasing a new guitar, I saw no need for it to go to waste, and donated the instrument to Zuhri bin Assan, Music teacher at my base school, SK Air Baruk. I’m certain my old guitar is in good hands, and glad that Zuhri and his students can enjoy a better quality guitar.
All in all, teachers in Jasin are motivated and using techniques gained from self study, discussions with fellow teachers, TPD sessions and Mentor class visits. The real stars of the programme are the teachers, some of whom we will hear from soon. Challenge Accepted, reporting from the front, in real time. Booyah.
